WHY IS MY COMPUTER ACTING UP?

Many pc owners have frustrating problems with their computer that usually can be resolved very quickly and easily. One of the most frequent causes of computer problems is errors in the computer's registry area. It is reported that almost 90% of computers running Microsoft Windows have registry errors. Errors in the Windows registry are a frequent cause of Windows system crashes, sluggish performance, computer freezes, dll or other error messages, and the blue screen of death (BSOD).

THE WINDOWS REGISTRY STORY

The Windows registry is one of the most critical components of the Windows operating system. It is required for Microsoft Windows to be able to operate. The Windows registry is stored on your pc in various files. These files can vary depending on the version of Windows being used and are therefore placed in a different location on your pc determined by the operating system.

The Windows registry records and saves information about hardware, memory, and computer addresses. It contains the information and settings for the hardware, software, users, and the preferences of the pc.

Whenever a change is made to the Control Panel settings, file relationships, system policies, hardware, or software, these changes are noted and stored in the registry. Windows continually refers to this information in the registry during its operation.

GOOD AND THE BAD OF THE WINDOWS REGISTRY

There are a number of advantages to using a registry based system. These include the computer's configuration being separated from the user's configuration, setting group policies is easier for administrators to control and manage, the registry can be accessed as a single item when using a network, and the registry can be backed up easily due to the size and consolidated location of the files.

A centralized registry, however, can present problems as well. The registry is considered a singular place of failure and revisions to the registry can end in disaster. The consequences can end up in sluggish performance, boot up problems, freezing or locking up, and much more.

In the most extreme cases, data could be lost and a complete re-installation of the pc's operating system would be required.

PROBLEMS WITH THE REGISTRY

Many software applications simply do not uninstall properly or thoroughly. This can be because these software programs do not provide a good uninstall utility, or if they do, some items are still left behind when the installation is complete.

The result is remaining entries in the registry leading to a bloated registry size. Even using the Microsoft Windows uninstall feature within the Control Panel can leave orphaned files throughout the registry.

Unfortunately, this can also make your pc unstable. You could spend lots of time and effort going through the registry and manually editing it, but this is not only a monumental task, it can also be a very hazardous one.

WHAT'S WITH THE ERROR MESSAGES?

Corruption inside the registry keys (similar to folders), registry classes (categories or groups of information blocks), registry values (the actual stored information itself) and registry settings are the most common reasons for Windows error messages.

Links that are pointing to dll files that are missing that no longer exist can often create dll error notifications and can usually be resolved with a good registry cleaner.

WORKING WITH THE WINDOWS REGISTRY SYSTEM

Making changes to the Windows registry can end in irrepairable damage. Most techs recommend that you only revise the registry manually if you understand what you're doing.

When working on registry errors and invalid entries, backing up the registry is extremely important. This provides you the option of returning the pc back to an earlier working state.

A quality registry cleaner will automatically back up the registry for you and the best registry cleaners let you restore the registry incrementally, so you are able to restore just the sections of the Windows registry that are causing the troubles.

REGISTRY FIRST AID

A quality registry cleaner product will generally clean up your Windows registry by tracking down invalid paths, Adwares and Spywares that use the registry, obsolete start menu order, invalid custom controls, dead file extensions, invalid file associations, invalid file types, invalid application paths, invalid fonts, obsolete software entries, and other dead entries throughout the Windows registry.

Registry cleaners are designed to make the difficult procedure of cleaning the Windows registry relatively easy. They standardly also include applications that not only deal with existing registry problems, but can also help stop problems from occurring to begin with.

Using Windows registry cleaner software as a part of your normal pc maintenance should help stop Windows error messages, prevent your system from crashing, remove problems you aren't even aware of, and optimize your computer's speed and performance.
